I'm the happy owner of a race Golf 1, fitted with the former hillclimbing Oettinger engine from G. Hayot.
I use to race in historic racing category.
After its hillclimbing period, the engine was a little bit "detuned": bigger head gasket and some tenth of mm ground on the top of pistons for a remainind 12.5 in compr ratio (ipo 13.0), and twin 45 DCOE ipo the modern injection.
Didn't change the 290 cams. This allows a pretty 185 HP (personal estimatios, knowing that the engine had more than 200 before change).
Shift light at 7800 rpm's to change at 8000 with some peaks at 8.2/8.3k (rev limiter).
The rest of the car: unwelded shell with 6 pts cage,
upper and lower front bars, KW phase 2 suspension,
G60 brakes & Ertalon bushing.
Anti roll bar removed at the front, and finaly an Motorport 8V Gbox with a 4.25 and a quaife diff. That gives 193 km/h @ 8000 rpm , nearly reached 3 times on Spa (Eau Rouge, Les Combes if aspiration and before the chicane). 3"01.8 on Toyo 888 as lap time, 1.56.9 on Zolder, "en rodage" earlier in the season.
