Hi guys

here is my dear golf who did suffer quite a bit in the past

the oettinger engine suffered a conrod bearing failure

so out it came and I fitted a 1.8 gti replacement just to drag the old shell around

but the worst happened this september when floods hit south of france and mainly my garage

here are some pictures of my poor golf

the oettinger engine was in a different garage waiting to get fresh parts

and the brand new ATS wheel was fitted just a month ago

I finally managed to get it clean and running

by replacing all wheel bearings fuel tank
all filters ,all fluids

now the car is running fine and looking less muddy
the goal is to take it to UK where I now leave so I could work more on it and give it her shine back

the plan are

*acid deeping the shell to sort out every rusty bits

*full respray in it standard color with its standard BBS body kit, stickers and logos

*upgrade seat by replacing the black cloths by leather (golf rallye style)and replace side foam bits

*rebuild of the oettinger engine (high revs spec 90.5x82.5)I will give more details on engine later

*VWmotorsport 6 speed 02A gearbox with quaife diff

A bad nightmare!!! Sorry to see this Romain!

It was indeed
Pretty glad I managed to save it
Even the injection work as normal
Was hard work but worth it and thanks to my family

I can't wait to bring the car in uk now
For me to work on it properly
The car being in france and me in london
Don't leave me much time to work on It

The next step will be a complete strip down
And acide deeping the sheLl and panel replacement
then acide deeping again and anti corrosion treatment
Then the paint work and waxing

Should be rust free for another ten years

Glad to hear you went through the effort and saved your Gti. It's hard to let these cars go.

Good luck with this restoration of a great car!

Hi Romain,

Really impressed by your pixs after the tempest. Sad Shocked

Bit strange to write in English to another French Wink

Do U have any news from your car? Did you import it in London ?

I try to organise a National Oettinger Meeting in June 2012 in DIJON : 'l'age d'or sur le circuit de Dijon Prenois'

Hope we could see each other.

Where U from in France ? I've seen your registration plaque it's a good clue ;=)

Sure, as U said : U live in London and the car is in St Maxime. Guess it's a bit tricky to work on your car. It would be different if your car were in Calais ;=)
